It is such an honor to be recognized with an award for doing something that brings me so much joy. I’m so proud to be part of the Dress for Success family helping women reach their dreams.”
Linda Webb was named Dress for Success Houston’s Winter 2015 Star Volunteer. I had known about Dress for Success Houston for years but had no idea that there was such a volunteer opportunity available until a few years ago when I decided to work only half time and called to find out what volunteer opportunities were available. I feel both surprised and humbled – what an honor and a privilege!”
Debbie Klemcke was named Dress for Success Houston’s Spring 2015 Star Volunteer. Debbie said, “To see the immediate transformation of the women we suit each week is so rewarding. The look on their faces when we find the perfect suit is what makes this all so worthwhile for me. There are so many wonderful volunteers that make Dress for Success Houston the success it is and I feel very honored to be chosen for this special award. It is a wonderful organization that is truly changing women’s lives daily. I am so glad I found this organization and treasure my time spent with Dress for Success Houston.”
Stephen LeJeune was named Dress for Success Houston’s Winter 2014 Star Volunteer. He said, “I am honored and humbled to be the first male given this honor. Being involved with Dress for Success Houston from the beginning and experiencing the three moves to larger locations through the years and finally to a building of its own; meeting many different, interesting and wonderful people; the hard work put into making it function like a business and be profitable; and to have been part of all it makes me very proud that I was part of the journey!”
Karen Bloomfield was named the Spring 2014 Star Volunteer at Dress for Success Houston! Of her experience volunteering, she said, “I love seeing the transformation that takes place in just one hour of working with a client. Women walk in and it’s clear that they don’t feel confident, but then they find the perfect suit and it’s a total turn around. You can see it in their eyes, they just know they are going to get the job.”
Linda Crosby, Winter 2013 Star Volunteer, says of her experience at Dress for Success Houston “ I like working the front desk. There I am able to see the transformation first-hand. When clients come in they usually have their heads hung down and are shy, quiet or even uncomfortable. But when they leave – with their suits in hand – their demeanors and attitudes change. They are smiling. Their heads are held high, they sometimes say, “I’m going to get this job.” Seeing that change in them is definitely the best part of my volunteer experience. “
Ellen Levin, Spring 2013 Star Volunteer, says of the impact we make, “The impact on the women who come through the program is immeasurable. Once they are involved, they are never alone again.”
Marie Burthlong, Spring 2012 Star Volunteer, says of client engagement, “I enjoy learning from the clients. You can’t help but walk away a better person after each interaction.”
Beryl Kaminsky, Fall 2012 Star Volunteer, says of our mission, “Dress for Success Houston’s mission to improve the lives of disadvantaged women is the primary reason I chose to volunteer here.”
Gloria Legington, Spring 2011 Star Volunteer, says of her experience, “My favorite part about volunteering at Dress for Success Houston is seeing the look on the face of the many clients we serve after they have been suited and given all items for their interview. The clients always leave with their heads up and a smile on their faces because they are encouraged!”
Barbara Hammonds, Fall 2011 Star Volunteer, says of the suiting process, “I love seeing the joy and happiness that comes across a client’s face during her suiting.”
